By now you have heard #GivingTuesday 2018 will be making a positive impact across the world on November 27th. It may seem as though this International Day of Giving is all about nonprofits. While this is partly true, corporations have plenty of reason to get involved. After all, #GivingTuesday celebrates generosity and the human spirit. #GivingTuesday appeals to everyone because we have an inherent need to give to others especially during the holiday season. Moreover, #GivingTuesday kicks off the Season of Giving in the first place. Corporations can utilize this day of unity and kindness to engage their employees, consumers, and, most importantly, give back. Here are a couple reasons corporations should be embracing #GivingTuesday in their year-end plans.

#GivingTuesday Engages Employees

It’s proven employees prefer to work for companies who give back to their communities. A sense of culture in the workplace creates happy employees and thus better work overall. At the end of the year, everyone can become consumed with their own busy lives and planning their holidays. #GivingTuesday will allow your business to attract employee participation. Have an internal fundraiser and offer donation incentives. Take this idea one step further by matching all of your employee donations to show even more of your giving spirit. Another way to embrace #GivingTuesday 2018 is by volunteering. Search for charitable walks and runs in your areas or make a point to volunteer as a group on #GivingTuesday. This allows you and your employees to connect with your community meanwhile bonding with each other.

#GivingTuesday Engages Consumers

Consumers love companies who are socially conscious. This is especially true when it comes to millennials. In fact, millennials are more brand loyal to companies who prioritize giving back. Give back programs truly make a difference and engage your customers. You’ll be tapping into their passion and compassion. Additionally, the customers who are brand loyal to you have similar views. This means whichever way you choose to engage or which organization you back, your customers feel compelled to donate and support your goal. #GivingTuesday is a wonderful way to embrace a give back program without a long commitment. See how these corporations have embraced #GivingTuesday:

  • Amazon delivered $15,000 in household goods and toys in Seattle. With their #Deliveringsmiles campaign, they provided over $500,000 in donations.
  • West Elm partnered with the ASPCA, the Human Rights Campaign, St. Jude’s Research Hospital, and Nepal Earthquake Relief to design special “Gifts That Give Back.” The respective nonprofits received 100% of the profits from sales of these gifts.
  • GoFundMe featured kid heroes in the weeks leading up to #GivingTuesday. In order to inspire adults to look beyond themselves. They gave $100,000 to kid heroes doing great things for their community while offering advice, tips, and activities for kids.
