In philanthropy, remarkable organizations and impactful partnerships often go unnoticed. Today, we’re excited to shed light on one such collaboration that has made a difference in the Phoenix community. It all began with a charm, a broken charm to be precise, that brought together two forces for good: AKArama, a national organization committed to bettering their community, and a private label jewelry company known for supporting women’s organizations and charities. AKArama’s dedication to making a difference in their community is commendable. We salute them and their unwavering commitment to the community.
We look forward to the continued success of this annual event!

A Chance Collaboration

About two years ago, a chance encounter occurred when Jeni Williams of the Phoenix AKArama Foundation reached out to Charity Charms when a charm from another women’s organization had come loose. Instantly, a connection was formed, and a creative partnership emerged. Together, we embarked on a project to create a unique and meaningful charm to support AKArama’s cause and be a part of their annual Fashionetta event. This event, known as the “Fashionetta” has been a Phoenix community staple for over 50 years and is their most prominent event. The most recent event’s theme was “Back with Brilliance,” marking a triumphant return to an in-person gathering after the challenges of 2020. Their event is not just about fashion; it’s a platform for impactful fundraising and community engagement. This event has become so popular that tickets typically sell out within the first weekend of release.

The result? A stunning sterling silver charm featuring the organization’s iconic logo, a doll’s head, and a freshwater pearl bracelet. But it wasn’t just a piece of jewelry; it was a symbol of their mission. On one side, the charm showcased the theme of their annual fashion show, “The Power of Pearls and Fashion Era,” along with the year 2022. Conversely, the doll’s head became a logo that now adorns all of AKArama’s fashionista advertisements. This partnership was a testament to how even a tiny charm can have a significant impact.

About Phoenix AKArama Foundation

AKArama is more than just a national organization; it’s a force for good. The Phoenix chapter, led by President Shawn Gear, is dedicated to uplifting their community through various initiatives. Their mission is to raise funds through the Phoenix AKArama Foundation and channel them into programs that make a real difference. One such initiative is the CHIP program. This program provides food for underprivileged children who might have meals at school during the week but struggle to find a meal on weekends. AKArama provides food that can sustain these children through the weekend, ensuring they can focus on their education without hunger as a distraction.

Additionally, they are involved in community clean-up activities, such as the Adaptive Street program and street cleaning in Tempe, Arizona. AKArama also contributes to global causes through Project Cure, sending medical supplies to needy countries. But it’s not just about addressing immediate needs; they are investing in the future with their youth programs, including a computer camp where children can learn coding and robotics.
