The Sweetness of Artistry & Philanthropy with Barb Gardner
Confectionery artists can create incredible works of art, but when they are done to brighten a sick child’s day, the smiles are that much sweeter. Our guest this week is Barb Gardner, a confectionery artist who creates delicious, eye-catching works of art every day at her bakery Cakes By Whisk. She has been featured as an assistant on the Food Network and even won awards for her confectionary creations. Not only does Barb make cakes for birthdays, weddings, and other events, but she is a baker for Icing Smiles.
Join Kay and Barb as they discuss her company Cakes By Whisk, how she uses her artistry for good, her advice for young businesswomen, and more!

Barb’s Power Symbol: The Peace Sign
Barb’s Power Symbol is the Peace Sign. This iconic symbol reminds Barb of her older brother who was in the Vietnam War and the innocence and fun of being a child in the late ’60s. The Peace Sign makes Barb smile remembering all those fun times – bell bottoms, flower power, and all. The modern peace sign was designed in 1958 as part of a campaign for nuclear disarmament. It was described as a symbol representing despair with the lines forming a human with its hands questioning at its sides. It has since become the universal symbol of peace.
